iPhone XR: 6.1-inch LCD screen, Dual SIM support and a single sensor on the back, We already have them with us: not only the top of Apple range, the new iPhone Xs and Xs Max, but also the cheaper version of the new family, which has been presented as the iPhone XR.
This new model has a fundamental difference with its older siblings, and although it maintains a good part of the design lines of the rest of the family, in its hardware there is a clear difference from the first moment: its 6.1-inch IPS screen , which maintains Apple’s commitment to a technology that is still alive despite the main focus on terminals with OLED screens.
A family design:
The iPhone XR has an IPS LCD screen instead of using OLED technology, but that does not prevent its design from being too different from its older siblings.
The same small frames are seen surrounding the screen and converging with the notch of the upper part, with rounded edges on the sides that are already common to the family.
What differentiates this model from its family companions is the variety of colors in which they will be available. Specifically, we will have finished black, white, blue, coral, and yellow, to which the edition (PRODUCT) RED.
Goodbye to 3D Touch, hello at 120 Hz (in the capacitive sensor, yes):
The screen has the technology “Liquid Retina”, which in its 6.1 inches diagonal offers a resolution of 1,792 x 828 pixels and a density of 326 dpi.
In Apple have pointed out how that diagonal is greater than the iPhone 8 Plus, but the overall design is more compact than this model thanks to the screen without frames of this new design.
That screen has an interesting point; in favor: a refresh rate of the capacitive sensor of 120 Hz, although the screen refresh remains at 60 Hz. With this the interactions are more fluid, they promise in Apple. In return, yes, we lose an element that some may miss: the support of 3D Touch technology.
The support of True Tone technology also comes to this screen, one of the main features of the iPhone XR. Apple engineers have also managed to offer the gestures we saw on the iPhone X in this new iPhone with LCD screen. The start button with Touch ID, by the way, says its final goodbye to the iPhone family.
A camera in front (with Face ID), one behind:
The iPhone XR has the same Face ID technology in the camera and front sensors that allow authentication through facial recognition, and as with the iPhone Xs and Max Xs we have faster recognition algorithms and a faster Secure Enclave .
This is due, among other things, to the presence, as in their older brothers, of the Apple A12 Bionic processor that will give this device a really promising process capability.
One of the clear differences with the iPhone Xs / Max is precisely in the rear camera system, which in this case integrates a single sensor.
Specifically, one with a resolution of 12 Mpixels, aperture f / 1.8 and pixels of 1.4 microns in size. The support of the optical image stabilization is important, as well as the new True Tone system of the flash.
Despite having only one sensor, the camera offers the ability to modify the aperture afterwards that we want to apply in the photo in order to make objects that are in the background appear more or less focused.
Resistance to water and Dual SIM to round the set:
The new iPhone XR maintain Apple’s commitment to water and dust resistance, and are IP67 certified to guarantee it.
In addition to wireless charging support in Apple have also added the option Dual SIM, another of the great news of a family that will finally allow users to keep two mobile lines in a single iPhone.
The battery seems to have also won in this model, and as in it’s older brothers at Apple they promise that it is 90 minutes higher than the one offered for example the iPhone 8 Plus. They estimate for example 15 hours of internet browsing or 16 hours of video playback.
Technical specifications of the iPhone XR:
The new iPhone XR pose differences with it’s older brothers, and the most striking is the LCD screen, which has a resolution significantly lower than those of the iPhone Xs and Xs Max screens.
|DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT||150.0 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm, 194 grams|
|SCREEN||6.1 inch IPS LCD with True Tone Resolution of 1,792 by 828 pixels at 326 dpi|
|MEMORY||64/128/256 GB (not expandable with microSD)|
|SOFTWARE VERSION||IOS 12|
|REAR CAMERA||12 megapixels, f / 1.8, OIS, True Tone four LED flash|
|FRONT CAMERA||TrueDepth FRAME CAMERA 7 megapixels f / 2.2, Face ID support|
|CONNECTIVITY||Wifi, Bluetooth 5.0, LTE, NFC|
|OTHER||Dual SIM, fast charge, wireless charge|
The other big difference, as we will see, is in its rear camera system, which in this case has a single sensor. Even so, the device does maintain a good part of the advantages of the new generation of iPhones, with the Apple A12 Bionic processor in front.
It is also interesting to note the presence of the Dual SIM slot and the support of both fast charging and wireless charging, which rounds out a fairly complete specification sheet.
